MOUNTAIN TOPS

I've been reading about the lives of the disciples as they walked with Jesus. They all came from totally different backgrounds and they all had different experiences of how they came to know Jesus. 

Fisherman, architect, tax collector, demoniac...

Every one of them had a moment where Jesus looked them in the eye and said "Follow Me". This was different for each of them because of the context of their lives, but the impact was the same.

The thing that stands out to me the most in these stories is that it wasn't their encounters with Jesus that changed them. It was their relationship with Him, and walking with Him everyday that changed them. 

I grew up in a Christian home, and a significant part of my walk with God was shaped by the experiences I had at church, camp, conferences, etc. 

Looking back, I know there were many times I lived more for those experiences then I did for a relationship with God that I would walk out every day. I would live for the "mountain top" moments, and I prayed that those experiences would carry me through the "valley" moments.

Over the years, the Lord has taught me that it's not the "mountain top" experiences we have that shape us. It's Jesus that shapes us as we walk with Him. Experiences will only take you so far. They will not last if the foundation is not built. Our roots need to go deep into Him and His Word.

For in Him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’ ~ Acts 17:28

Wherever you may be in your journey of faith, I want to encourage you to give Jesus every part of your life, and commit to walking with Him everyday. You will not go wrong.

It's not the moments that change you. It's every moment with Him that changes you.
